- The Alpena Excelsior Company plant was located on Woodward Avenue near West Miller. It was incorporated in 1892 with George Shannon as president, J.C. Walker as secretary, F.W. Fletcher as Treasurer, and J.A. Corbin as foreman. The company manufactured all grades of excelsior for carriages, mattresses, caskets, upholstery, and packing. Their offices were at 122 North Second Avenue.
