Description
The Balchen / Balken laundresses for L. R. Balken. Ludwig R. Balken was born in Norway on June 11, 1865, immigrated to America in 1886, and married Margaret Eastonson in Evanston, Illinois on August 1, 1888. According to city directories, he was in Alpena as an owner of a laundry business under various names until about 1908. Ludwig resided in Chicago in 1910 and died there on June 17, 1917. On May 5, 1908, he obtained a patent for a "Bait-holder."
