- This letter mentions Ella M. White. Miss White (1874-1966) was an outstanding civic and education leader. Some of her accomplishments included elementary teacher, city editor of Alpena News, business secretary for Alpena Schools for 36 years, wrote "A Century in Alpena Schools," taught Sunday school for 30 years, helped to establish the Alpena Chapter of Red Cross in 1917, charter member of the Woman's Civic League, member of the Alpena County Welfare Committee, State Chairperson of the Department of Education of the Michigan Federation of Women's Clubs, Council President of the Parent-Teachers Association, and advisor for Girl Reserves.
