- Known as the Dean of Alpena Businessmen, Adam Ludewig came to Alpena in 1871, and owned and operated a bookstore in various Alpena locations for over fifty years. He received many public honors including a life membership in the Elks Club. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for 71 years. He was best known for his bookstore on Second Avenue where he also had office supplies and Alpena souvenirs of glass and china.
