Fall, 1974 Alpena Community College, Alpena Michigan 49707 Vol. 6 No.1 13 Foreign Students To Enter A.C.C. Alpena Community College is for- tunate enough to receive 13 foreign students for this 1974-1975 fall class program. Five of these foreign students are from Kolonia, Ponape, in the East Caroline Islands, five are from Moen, Truk, in the East Caroline Islands, and three are from Koror, Palau, which is also located in the East Caroline Islands. These students are coming to A.C.C. through our involvement in the Pacific Micronesian Cultuarl Aid, Inc. Program. This program, in short, helps students 'come to college'. All of the foreign students under this program are eligible for work study programs, federal loans, jobs, grants, and all federal financial aid programs. Each of these 13 students entering A.C.C. comes from an excellent academic background as a student, and also has a superb record as a citizen. Although all the students' registrations have not yet been made final, those on record include a couple from Kuwait, named Najed Majed and Shuaa Majed Dakkak; Enrollment Up For 1974-1975 Fall Semester The enrollment for the 1974-1975 fall semester at A.C.C. is up about 12% over that of 1973-1974. Last year's student count was 467 students, while this fall the c~unt was 533. For new incoming students included in this count, the en- rollment count is up 10--15% for the fall semester. In talking with Dean Souden, Dean of Students at A.C.C., he deemed this increase to several factors, including better followup of new students with: A. Housing information mailed B. Orientation better organized C. Newsletters mailed to new incom- ing students D. Registration and final orientation well -organized and complete Of course, no one can explain an in- crease in new student enrollment; but, with a better organized system within the college itself, registration at A.C.C. be- comes a smoother process by which stu- dents can join and share in a better learn- ing environment. and from Coasta Rica, we'll be receiving (Cruz) Frederico G. Leiva. In talking with Mr. Whitkoph, he seemed excited about .these new faces to arrive at A.C.C. He responded, when asked how he felt about the new foreign students entering our college, "I feel it will be interesting for us and interesting for them."
