THE POLEMIC Skiing Fun 1n the Snow, "Snow" seems to be the most talked about subject on ACC's campus, and with good reason. Snow is a very important element needed for good skiing. Skiing is quite a popular sport as illustrated by the large number, about 65 of students who enrolled in the two scheduled skiing class- es for the spring semester . Pre-registration for spring completely filled the two classes on Wednesday and Thursday and had left about 24 students registered for the class, but no space avail- able for them. Mr . Richard E . Miles, the Skiing Instructor, agreed to teach a third skiing class, to be held on Tuesdays. Mr. Miles said that this year's class is the larg- est ever to sign up for Skiing. This year is also the first year that a third class has been open, due to the increased number of students. Some students are second- year students in skiing who liked it so much the first time that they're back to try it again! The Skiing classes run for 8 weeks for one day a week. Students can drive their own cars to Mt. Maria, where the classes are held, or may ride the bus from the dorm driven by Mr. Miles. Equipment is provided for those stu- dents who don't have their own. All the students receive a lesson which usually lasts from 4:00 until 5 or 5 :30 p.m. The lesson is based upon the students' ability and skill. There are beginners', intermediates', and advanced classes for the students, according to the category that they fit into. The idea is to teach the student how to control himself on his skis . If all else fails, fall down, but do it right! The classes usually end when the slope closes down at 10 p.m. The students usually don't want to quit until they are forced to quit. Skiing once again proves to be a contagious and fun sport! By Anne Marie Swan Oh no, that 's Mt. Maria!!
