Dec. 3, · '62--30 business reps from N.E.M.l .'s Industry united to form A.C.C. Advisory Council for Technical Ed :- to determine to technical curr.i- culum, facilities & service to be included in the new tech center. April 18, '67--Band pavilion proposed on campus site. 1951--Michigan passes. legislation to allow for a Community College. Dec. '62--Student Council studies formation of 2/7/52--Dr. Russell H. Wilson, superintendent of (1.0.C.) Inter-Organization Council to coordinate schools and Alpena Board of Education discusses social activities of student body. the advisability of a junior college in Alpena. 2/13/52--Resolutions passed. 52-53--83 students enroll, classroom is a.llotted at the new High $chool (Thunder Bay). High School library was used plus a special library exclusively for the college students at the college center. The college center students were able to meet with the 10 faculty members, a few were part time. · -<... 53-54--126 full & part time students. Nov. 24, '64--A.P.S.B. to take bids,on construction of Besser Museum. Dec. 8, '64--Board of Ed. approved plan for the conversion of the former city infirmary to a student Jan . '68--New forestry tech program instituted. Summer '55--Summer school opens. 1957--Jess Besser donates land for new A.C.C. . campus ·with a trak of land donated by theCity .of Alpena, and a trak donated by the County, of Alpena. The construction of a college building began in 1957 on Johnson Street on the bank of Lake·Besser. This building was to house all classes except music, drama, art, physics, machine shop & P.E . The cornerstone was laid in 12/5/57 for Central Hall (Van Lare Hall) ~ center. Feb. 20, '65--Student Center opens . March 24, '65--Dr. John Brubad1er _announced resignation as Supt . of Schools. Feb. '68--0ver 800 students in enrollment. May '68--70,000 salmon planted in Thunder Bay River. ·Feb. 11, 1~70--Dick Gregory visits Alpena--speaks on moral pollution. March '65--Museum site cleared. April '59--School spirit seems to be a perennial problem at A.C .C., as Sue Cloft wrote in "The Timbercruiser", "A.C.C. is not only lacking in school spirit at game~, but also in attenc:Lence at school functions." 1961--Dr. Russell H. Wilson resigns at Supt. of Schools. Nov. '59--A.C.C .. provides for needs of industry--to fill requirements to technical skills in industry. Sept. '65--cEnrollment up to 700. Fall '72--New Oean of Students hired-Dean Souden. Feb. '73--Enrollment 1,369. Oct. 27, '65--Dorm o .k. by school board. Suggested bi-winged, (Mens wing & womens wing) with a Aug. 27, 1973--A.C.C.'s accredation renewed. central section for recreation, study & meetin.g. Nov. 12, '65--50 A .C.C. students demonstrated in support of the U.S.'s Viet Nam Policy. Feb. - 1, '66--Dorm architect selected. Feb 4, '66--Jack Petoskey, eventual successor to Van Lare arrives at A.C.C. May '74--After the fire at the dorm, reconstruction is underway with many changes in center section . Fall, '74--1,475 students. May 2, '75--15 A.C.C. Spanish student; tour Mexico. April, '76--North Central Agancy does follow-up April. '66--$400,000 grant from Jesse Besser for study of A.C.C. Sept. '59--A.C.C. welcomes students frot'n China & expansion of BTC. India. Sept. '61--450 students. 1961--Technical Center to be built, the entire center to be presented 6y the Besser Co. The Tech- nical Center will house Mechanical Technology, Civil Tech, Forest Tech, Auto Tech and an Auto Technical Laboratory.
