Student 1Upset With Parking Lot Policy Dear Editor: I am truly upset with the parking policy at Alpena Community College! I am the proud owner of a 69 Ford Van. However, due to the financial situations that I have encountered during the 2nd semester of the 1976-1977 school year I have not been able to drive it at all. I did not drive it to and frorri school during the entire second semester, therefore I did not bother to register it with Dean , Soudens' office in Van Lare Hall. Recently I have been able to afford to put it on th~ road. However, knowing ·it was not registered at the college I still did not drive it to school. One afternoon I had to go to school to check on my eligibility for my BEOG and pick up an appli- cation. On this afternoon I did drive my own Van. Knowing it was not registered, I decided to park in the visitors parkingllot in front of Van Lare Hall. I was not in the building for the alloted time of 30 minutes given to all visitors. When I came back out I got in to drive my van away, I noticed that I had Advance Registration - May 2 thru June 13 late Registration and Adds - June 14 thru 16 ·classes Begin - June 14 Pre"-Registration - May 2 thru August 19 Advance Registration - August 22 thru Sept Residence Halls Opens - Sept. 5, 1 :00 p.m. Orientation - Sept. 6 Regular Registration - Sept. 8 &, 9 Late 'Registration and Adds - Sep·t. 12 thru 21 Classes Begin - Sept. 12 High School Visitational To Take Place May 25th -Student Senate President Reflecting On Past Two Years Reflecting back on my past two years in the Stu- dent Senate, I feel a certain pride at the way the student's voice has grown to be a viable participant in campus administration. At our last Consortium 8 meeting, I was surpris- ed to find that most community colleges set their student government up to run their activities pro- gram. This is to say, their student government does Mr. Valli's job. They have no say in other are~s of student concerns (law-making, policies, curriculum, etc.) Whereas, Alpena Community College's senate acts . as a liason between the students and the fac- _ulty or administration--most student governments .don't. I was equally amazed to find that up until eight years ago that was the way it was_ here. It is my hope that the Student Senate of Alpena Community College never relinquishes the power that it now has. I hope it grows. The students are what make a community college just that. It seems fair, to me, to say that these same students should have a say in all policies, rules and ideas which directly or indirectly affect them and the college. by Laurie Fitzpatrick _ There _ is room ~or expansi~n_- The students Wednesday, May 25th is the date set for the high should have _a say in the o:gani~ing of the_ college school visitational to take place here at A.C.C. calendar--wh1ch sets vacation time, starting and The purpose of this event is to give interested ending dates, etc. The students should emphasize persons exposui:_e to the college.
