Unfortunately, due to the overwhelming response we were unable to print all of them. Re- maining letters will be printed in the n~xt issue of The Polemic. Dear Editor: My purpose in writing this . letter is to respond to the Let-- ters to the Editor concerning the snack bars, particularly to the criticisms of Mrs. Jean Cousineau in the Van Lare Hall snack bar. To the "concerned stu- dent, " I might mention that if you want to be critical just to be critical, I have no response. I also consider it a source of pride for ACC. However, since all endeav- ors can be improved, I am expressing . a concern I have about your October 28, 1992, issue. Three of four letters ended with no signatures, a practice more suitable to the Ann Landers column or a tabloid than to the editorial page of a college newspaper. I question 1he Polemic 's policy allow- ing students and staff to have their opinions published un- signed. Omitting the names of writers allows unidentified critics, posturing as respon- sible citizens, to level their I cheap shots at other citizens who are deprived of the chance to directly challenge their named accusers "eye-to-eye." This practice is like sniping. The sniper conceals her or his presence to guarantee a direct strike and escape the threat of having to answer for the con- sequences of the deed. It can also be compared to vandal- ism or destructive graffiti. elicit a response so that we · can begin dialogue to solve a problem, then sign your name to your letter. I was not aware that we are charg- ing different prices at our two snack bars. I will discuss pric- ing with Jean and Kathy and the prices will be the same by November 15. We will send a directive to both snack bar managers As for Jean being rude and ill mannered, I flat out don't believe that, especially when conveyed by the "un- known concerned student." Those who accuse or complain certainly have the right to do so, but they should face the scrutiny of the reading public who may demand that they further ex- plain and defend their claims.
