March 31, 1987 ALPENA COMMUNITY COLLEGE'S STUDENT NEWSPAPER Highlights on A cc A t d. l ed this week I Foundation Dinner Dance . r tsp ay . · The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, conducted by Buddy Morrow, will be appearing for the ACC founda- tion Dinner/Dance at the Alpena Civic Center on Friday, April 10, 1987. The event will begin with a cash bar, cocktail hour at 6:30 pm. This will be followed with a prime rib dinner or Lenten fish special at 7:30 pm. From 9pm -lam, there will be dancing to the "Big Band · Sound" of Tommy Dorsey. The total cost for the evening is $100 per couple. Half of this will go towards the cost for putting on the event, and the other half will go toward the foundation. A tax-deductable receipt will be issued from the foundation. The foundation board's goal is to raise $10,000 for the foundation endowment fund. It is hoped that 200 couples will make it to the event. The Lincoln Magna Carta is on tour in the United States and will be on display at Lake Superior State Col- lege on April 6. · This is the original document sign- ed by King John at Rupnymede, in 1215. The Magna Carta is one of the documents on which the founding fathers based the Constitution. It is called the "Lincoln" Magna Carta because it is privately owned by the Dean of Lincoln Cathedral in Lincoln, En_gland, where it is usally kept . The tour starts in Awt! and will end in September in Washington D.C. The tour will include the states of the 13 original colonies and the Northwest Territory. The Lincoln Magna Carta will be on display in 6 different cities in Michigan: Marquette, Saulr Ste. Marie, Bay City, Flint, Detroit, and Lansing. The Magna Carta was on display only once before in the USA, at the New York World's Fair in 1939. At the outbreak of WWII, President Roosevelt ordered the document to be stored at Fort Knox until the end of the war. The US Constitution Council of the 13 original states, created in 1970, to enccmrage the bicentennial era, is responsible for bringing the Lincoln Magna Carta to the USA. The tour is funded by American Express . The Michigan Sesquicentennial Commitee is responsible the Michigan tour. All faculty, staff, and students are invited to view the Lincoln Magna Carta at LSSC.
