The board meets the second Thursday of every month and the educational program meets the fourth Tuesday of every month, except December. Membership is paid. The Student Nurse Association of Alpena Community College, which encompasses classes of ADN and PN students, elected their officers on Wednesday, September 23. According to Peace Corps Area Manager Alice Cooper, the Higher Education Act of 1986 (Public Law 99-498, approved on October 17, 1986) provides authority for the cancellation of National Direct Student Loans owed by Peace Corps volunteers. "Liberal arts ,majors are also sought, particularly if they have leadership and community service experience. Individuals with backgrounds in agriculture, foresty, gardening, or skilled trades--regardless of their academic major--should also consider applying." . Round-trip transportation is provided to orientation sites and overseas assignments as well as for home leave in the event of a family emergency. While in language training and during service, all day-tp-day living expenses are provided through a monthly allowance. Medical care is also provided.
