First, there is a figure of $22,000 which is taken out of the general fund. With that the Budget Review Board calls a meeting with all ACC clubs and organizations who are seeking funds for the year. Secondly, it is up to the clubs and organizations to create their budget for the During the spring, the Student Activities . Board sponsors many activities for the benefit of the student body. For some unknown reason, there has been limited participation in all student functions. Before I became the Vice- President of the Student Senate, I was informed that the major priority was to take care of all internal problems that exist in the organization. That was not a bad idea, but, as your new activity coordinator, I am going to change philosophy. Happening various activities they wish to hold and they then submit this to the Budget Review Board for approval. The Board then looks at past expenditures and how many students are effected by what theorganization does. In other words, an organization such as the Student Activity Board, which coordinates activities for the whole student body will get more money than a club whose share will primarily benefit its membership. Breaking down the types of activities held, there have been fun events like the g~ces, and there have been educational events, such as John Engler being on campus. With that I have decided to approach things by having more activities and doing some new things here on cafl!pus. First will be a game show called "The Blizzard of Bucks". This event will be held on March 5 and will have a $500 grand prize. There will be more details given as they become • Ill the It is the responsibility of the club president to get a budget in for the club's use and attend the Budget Review meeting so the organization will not be left out. With that you also have a right to determine available. The kinds of dances we will be having are going to change. A Morp and Sadie Hawkins are on the agenda right now. Also, I hope to introduce euchre and pool tournaments. I realize that the fact that most students are taking a full class load and working and perhaps have families. However, without your comments, I can not do much to accommodate older and younger students alike. In keeping with that SAB? what activitfos are held by attending the Student Senate meetings and making your opinion known. Student activities are paid for by you and planned for you, so let your voice be heard by using the suggestion boxes in VLH and BTC, by calling Ext. 287, or by stopping by the Student Senate Office located in BTC. sentiment, I would like to announce that suggestion boxes will be put in place so there can be a direct communication between the Student Activities Board and the student body. I am also calling out to all of the clubs and organizations on campus to come to the Student Senate office so that we can all work together to create more interesting activities. s What are your views on the Student Activities Board and its performance? T S Up DE EA NK T s Mark Quaine--Electronics "Nothing--no time. Only interested in taking needed classes and working full time." Keith Koger--Criminal Justice "Events have been pretty good comparable to Flint and inner-city. It's nice to see free refreshments and a~mission. Fraternities may give more of • a college feeling." Christine LaHaie--Business Mgmt. "We need events like a euchre tournament, doubles pool tournament, more theme dances like Sadie Hawkins, · etc." Jim DeCaire--Drafting "It's important to have events to get kids interacting. Over here at BTC most students are laid off workers who are working toward a new job and are not interested in dances. Dances are more for the kids just out of high school...you have to realize the average age of students is 27." \ '\.'
