Joette Woloszyk was the superstar for the Lumberjills that night bring: ing back home 21 points and 17 re Mary Ellen Sermak also contributed to a Winning cause with 16 points and Phyllis Idalski added 14. As for Schoolcraft, Melissa Youngberg was high for the losers with 16 points followed by Caren Beers with 14. The girls were on their way down to Detroit to cheer for their first “away” games. The five-hour trip down was not something the cheerleaders had looked forward to; however, it actually turned out to be one of the most worthwhile parts of the trip. 't gave Amy Bushey, Cindy Flynn, Bev Orban, Irene Stoppa, Jody Cadarette, Lynnette Rouleau and Ruth Hale a chance to get to know One another and become friends rather than just acquaintances. They arrived at Schoolcraft Friday night, just in time to cheer the woman's team on to a 76 to 57 victory.. The girls then piled back into the van and traveled another 30 miles to the Red Roof Inn, in Macomb. By the time they reached their motel they were so exhausted they went straight to bed and called it a day. The next morning they rushed to Macomb Community College for the 1:00 men’s basketball game. Unfortunately, the Jacks lost the game by a score of 68 to 54. After the game the girls finally got to take off their cus Ng. Sunday morning found the girls headed for a men’s game in Lansing against the MSU JV’s. The Lumberjacks won 88 to 69. After the game, Coach Schray invited the cheerleaders, along with the players, over to -his parents’ house near Lansing for a small get-together. The trip had not only been a success, but it had brought the entire squad closer together than they fa ever been before. SOFTBALL IS NEW SPORT AT ACC By Cathy Mason There will be something new in: ACC sports this spring - Women’s fastpitch softball. ‘i Daring the March try-outs, the 15 players that compose a team will be chosen. Any woman who is a full- time student at ACC qualifies. Coach Dick Miles says that with hard work one “‘can learn a lot of the skills’. He is hoping for a well- rounded team with women of “ cap: able skills who can play anywhere’’. According to Coach Miles, the main objective of intercollegiate sports is “‘to win’’.
