VOLUME FOUR ISSUE TEN CAMPUS UPDATE Alpena Community College, Alpena, MI FEBRUARY: 8, 1982 Sheila Parkinson 1982 Homecoming by Greg Hurd Homecoming 1982 found Sheila Parkinson winning for both her team and herself. After a grueling 87-86 victory over Henry Ford, she was crowned Alpena Homecoming Queen by U.S. Representative Robert W. Davis. Her selection was made over eight other young women by student vote. Sheila originally hails from Gaylord, but moved to Alpena when her father was transferred here. She says she likes Alpena be- cause “it’s so spread out and still has that small town feel about it.” While at ACC she has found an sea é is to ple “one who not only has the physical : and mental aspects but the spiritual aspect also.’ In addition to basket- ball, she has an interest in other sports as well as hiking, rapelling, and canoeing, all of which she had an opportunity to do last summer. Surprisingly, _ Sheila has not trained for any sports, but rather they have come to her naturally and she has become quite successful at them. Her basketball record speaks for itself. She counts her parents as her main inspiration and biggest fans. ‘‘They travel to all the games and haven‘t missed. one.” she says. Sheila will be graduating this spring, Although she has no im- mediate plans she would like to continue her college education and stay involved in sports. Congratulations Sheila and good luck in the future! by Jenni Ritzler Toni Titus, a former ACC stuz dent, was guest soloist at the Alpena Civic Orchestra’s mid-winter concert held January 29 at the Alpena High School auditorium. The orchestra, under the direc- tion of William E. Maxwell, per-. formed. such selections _as Schumann’s “Fourth Symphony” and Berlioz’ “Hungarian _March.’’ The orchestra also accompanied Titus in “Pamina’s Aria’’ from “The. Magic Flute” by Mozart and “The by Paulette Pupard The first production of the ACC Players will be a presentation of the. lively “musical ‘Godspell’ on March 17th through 21st at the Alpena Civic Theatre. ‘Godspell’ is a contemporary play based on the Gospel according to St. Matthew. CAST SELECTED Virtually every kind of song and dance are used to tell the updated parables. Directed by Sonya Titus, this show will feature ACC students Victor Bruning, Don Elliott, II, Herman Retzloff, Paul Jurusov, Dan Bohlinger, Jenni Ritzler, Karen Jewel Song’ from Gounod’s “Faust,” and pianist Mary Louise Hart accompanied Titus in several other numbers. Titus has had many starring roles in Alpena Civic Theatre and Thun- der Bay, Summer Theatre produc- tions. She is a graduate student at University of Michigan and was voted “most promising vocal music student” at U-M in her senior year. She has since performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and in March. will sing the title role in U-M’s production of “The Old Maid and the Thief” by Menotti. Wayne Johnson, Wards manager, says the trial class was a big success and will launch future classes for the adult who needs and wants to know more about their car.
