CAMPUS UPDATE eer Page A Sign to 84-85 Squad Alpena Community College Wo- men’s Basketball Coach, Frank McCourt recently announced the signing of two high school stand- outs to letters of intent over the. past weekend. The first signed was Karen McDonald a 5’9” forward from Melvindale High School. While starting Melvindale under Coach Lauer, Karen averaged 16 points per game with 10 rebounds. Karen was an all league performer in her last three years and also all metro | and all state honorable mention. Coach McCourt commented “we are very excited to get a player of Karen’s caliber both as a leader on the court and off the court. Karen was our number two recruit statewide when we started and we have seen nothing at this point to change our minds. “We feel that Karen will be able to contribute immediately to our pro- gram.” The second player signed is 6’0” center-forward Charlene Crowe of Beck High School. Charlene is a three year starter in basketball, averaged 12points per game and 13 rebounds per game during her sen- Coach McCourt commented, “Charlene Crowe is the tallest play- er we have recruited thus far at ACC: We hope that she will be the solution to our inside game next year. We are not only impressed by Charlene’s basketball ability, but also by her attitude and we feel she will be a real leader. These two players join four other recruits already signed: Michele Campbell, Louann Mahalak, and Sherry Clark of Alcona; and Monica Wozniak of Alpena. Coach McCourt also indicated that he is close to signing a couple of other players from the area in the very near fu- ture. Alpena Community College Men’s Basketball Coach, Wayne VanDyke, announced recently the signing of Tim Burrows of Alpena High School. Tim, the son of George and Marilyn Burrows of 2242 Wood- view Drive of Alpena, is a 6’4”, 220 |b. center-forward, who was a four year varsity player with the Wildcats. While playing for high school coach. Bill DesChamps, Tim was voted MVP in 82-83 and Most able Defensive player in both During his senior year Tim led his team to their first district title in many years scoring at a 10.6 point per game average, but more importantly, averaging 13.5 rebounds per game and 4 assists. Coach VanDyke commented that Tim has the ability to play either center or forward, and where he will play will depend on the rest of the players recruited to the ACC | Program. Coach VanDyke also stat: ed that Tim has the size and ability to be an intimidating inside player in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association.
