xCAMPUS ACtIVITIES » ACT Presents Cross Country Circle K Off e ACC Runners Get Towed Not only did the women’s cross’ country team fail to place in the top ten in their first. invitational meet, but they all stopped 200 miles from the finish line! Friday morning, September — 28, the men and womens cross country teams piled into a van and a car expecting a routine trip for an away meet in Ma- comb. The first one hundred miles were quite uneventful; the womens team and two members of the men’s team napped in: the van, as three other runners from the men’s team learned of coach Gen- try’s college days as they rode in his car. After stopping for lunch at » Wheelers, a restaurant in Stan- ish known for its fine qui- dish, the almighty god of motor vehicles décided the rent-a-van had gone far enough and caused a flood of oil, which forced us to pull over to the side. Fortunately, the van’s CB functioned, 0 one of the - runners, known by her CB “handle, “‘Hotsie”, called out for help. A CBer with the handle Sunshine called a tow truck, and we thought within moments we'd be back on the trail with a new vehicle. This was not the case, however, When the tow truck finally did! arrive, it was too late to reach our meet, so we decided to rent cars back to Alpena. Although it sounds easy, that was not to be. First off, the van was towed with run- ners still inside, and was quite a sight. When we reached the towing office, Mr. Bennett, mens cross: country coach; called Hertz for new cars. After waiting awhile, the rent- a-van company called and said , we would have to rent from a~ company other than Hertz. Now we had to rent from a _ Place whose boss was eating, . 80 another del How does one pass the time in Standish? Well, we first went to Forwards to buy momentos of this unbelievable experience, bought Doritos and played Trivial Persuit. We also played with the CB, and spoke with a trucker (with the handle Undercover’ Lover ) who overheard Hotsie and Sunshine. He said he'd like to meet with our van full of women. We decided to have a little fun, so we sent him on a wild goose chase down 1-75 (we told him to meet us at the Y for burgers). Finally, Mr. Bennett. came back with two new rent-a-cars, and after a total of 5 hours, we were on the road again. Standish is not a fun place to be stranded, and to top it off, than if we would have ran, thankful that our next meet is at home. the way sual it rained. __ spectac! ° Fall Line-Up Alpena Civic Theatre (ACT) has prepared an exciting fall line-up featuring November : Sat; ar he Jan- uary 9 - 13; bles, March = 10; and finally, “May: 15 - 18, Currently in’ rehearsal at Ns is the Neil Simon musi- is. which fcatites! the music of Burt Bacharach, including the songs “Promises, Promises’:.and ‘I'll Never Fall in Love Again.” “It's going to be a great show!” says Sonya Titus, dir- ector.
