Have you ever walked outside, in a hurry to get to your next class, and been slowed down by icy sidewalks. Chances are if you are a Student at ACC you have had the pleasure of experiencing the treacherous w: One faculty member witnessed two students fall in the same place, at different times, while walking to his own class. Another faculty member fell ‘on the ice and badly sprained an COUNTERACT ON ICE "I think we are doing a super job of keeping the campus ice-free," said Mr. Witt of Buildings and Grounds. Obviously it has been and still is a serious problem. Yes, the college is busy taking care of other things for the benefit of students and they do a great job of keeping the buildings clean. The sidewalks and parking lot need attention too. Students are entitled to be able to walk to class without risking injury. Having to walk on slippery sidewalks is not risk free. PROBLEM and Grounds were doing the best job possible under the circumstances. It would also be quite easy to break an arm ora leg. We could lookat it from a different perspective though- not every college can boost its students need ice skates to get to and from class. Alpena can! Slightly Descriptions Deceiving ou one of those who feel the descriptions presented in the college catalog?» Well, do not think that you are alone. There is growing concert among students pertaining to the course descriptions. Many students feel- a inaccurate picture is bein; presented, along with several unayailable courses. The concern that is reflected indicates that many students, after registration, are realizing that the course does not meet their expectations. Some of the courses they register for do not even exist. m5 Well, some answers have been revealed to help ease the minds of concerned students. According to. ACC’ counselor, Richard Counsellor, the college catalog must be viewed as a breif summary which highlights the main objective of each course. The course descriptions brief summary is also used as iene 3 transferrability. According to Mr. Counsellor a number of courses listed in the catalog have been placed on an inactive list.. Meaning that the inactive courses still exist, ‘but will only be offered if students generate demand for the course. The removal of all nonexisting courses will take lace when all — other corrections and modifications A WARM WELCOME FROM THE PRESIDENT A welcome. It comes in many burger, or sitting down with colleagues to root on our Lumberjacks basketball teams. But, in every case, a feeling of support and encouragement has certainly permeated the many contacts I have been fortunate to have with students and staff of the ACC community since a wayward Michiganer returned to his birthplace. Certainly, there will always be challenges, but with candor and open communications between each of us that make up this college community, we can ACC DAY In recognition of February as National Community College Month, ACC has proclaimed 4 ‘ Beginning at ll:00am and ending at 4:00pm, the lobby of the mall will be used: by ACC instructors | and administrators to present an exploritorium on ACC facilities. This year's exploritorium theme is "ACC, where Northeast Michigan goes to college".
