MARCH 2, 1988 Page 5 Volunteers Give It There Best Shot lot of work went into organizing and planning the February 29th ACC millage election even though it did not pass. Students, along with members of the staff and community, volunteered their time for the pre-election activities. According to Dean Davis, the Citizens Steering Committee chose a more "personsal approach" in their quest for community support. Over 4,000 people in the county were telephoned and asked to support the election. Those who gave their support were placed on a list and sent postcards to remind them of the special election. Two days before the election, postcards were sent again to millage backers reminding them to H a T'S ELECTION er vote. On the afternoon of the election, a group of volunteers: were involved in "poll-watching”. Groups of two to three people went to precincts to check the lists who had voted. They compared: the list of those who had voted to the list of millage supporters. The poll watchers then reported back to four phone banks set up in Besser Technical Center, the Besser Company, Gordon School, and Alpena High School. Those people on the support list who had not yet voted were then given a reminder phone call to go out and vote. Although the millage did not pass, there was definitely a positive effort given by many people - faculty, ae Students, and many area citizen: te How was Spring Break around Alpena, Michigan? In Forida it was great! Lam one of the 12 people that went to Daytona Beach from Alpena. The weather was terrific. We had an 84 degree day, and the test of the days were between 70. degrees and 75 degrees. There was always something to do in the evening, Various disco clubs, partying in your hotel room, or just walking on the beach with a friend, were some of the activities. During the day there was always shoping that had to be done. The endless rows of stores and little gift shops were very interesting.We walked along the beach and picked up some different shells also during the 10 days we ‘were gone. If you left out the fact that we all got sunburned beyond belief, and that the 24-28 hour drive dragged on‘and on, you could say that we had a terrific time in Daytona Beach, Florida.
