Page 3 In the late 1960's and early 1970's colleges were the hotbed of activism. Something was always going on. There was always someone, something, or some activity to protest. Students were. involved and because of that involvement they became better people. And were therefore able to serve society better. How sad it is now to look around and see what a passive bunch we have become. Abby Hoffman must view us with pity. We have sold ourselves to society in order to become prosperous. Don't we realize that prosperity lasts but a lifetime, while changes we can help make can last for generations. It isn't that the chances to get involved aren't available. All you have to do is look around. There's animal rights, abortion, political issues, conservation, and nucleur disarmament. It doesn't matter which side you take as long as a side is taken, and you just don't ignore the issue at hand. I look around and see young. energetic_people,whoware acting like their ” u they're just ignoring everything that's important. generation who thinks nothing of the ones to follow us. ‘ou want your children to breathe fresh air, to be able to go camping in a forest, and to not have to worry that their life is going to end in a blinding flash of light. Maybe I give the human race more credit than we deserve. Maybe we are just a bunch of self-centered animals who will not. Get involved. If you see or hear something which affects you, make the effort to make a contribution. Please do this for our sake, and for the sake of generations to come. ON BASE Dean Mc Cormack is now summer.
