With this concept in mind the re-modeling of the lounge will be a complete project. It will include the removal of the previous furnishings and replacing them with a "today" style of tables, ACC Has New Information Director A director of public information has been appointed to handle media relations and promotional activities at ACC. Carlene Przykucki began her out of mes the esa ‘She was editor of The Alpena News Monday Plus since its inception in 1984, has been a staff writer for a number of years and served as editorial coordinatior for special sections there prior to her appointment at ACC. "JT appreciate the welcome | have received here, " Przykucki said, “and I'm looking forward to the challenge of my responsibilities. The cooperation of students and staff will be a big help." @ & The Michigan Clean Indoor Act (P.A. 198 of 1986) prohibits smoking in educational facilities, but designated smoking areas can be used. ACC's present stand on smoking is that there is no smoking at all indoors. Perhaps a revision of this policy would be in order. It must be mentioned that the no smoking policy can be changed by a Board of Trustees vote, but it up to you to see that action is taken, It is obvious that there is a trend toward a smoke free America, but the decision to smoke is a choice that one makes. Both sides have valid arguments, but they must learn that it can not be 100 percent their way. aA Opinion tes A chairs and end tables, to project a comfortable setting. All student clubs and organizations are encouraged to submit their January schedule in writing to the Public Information Office immediately, and to continue to do so by the last Monday of each month for the following month's schedule. Przykucki will also be.around the campus photographing "life at ACC" to establish a file of current scenes for use in the college catalog, brochures and advertising. A The passage of ACC's smoking policy I feel is discrimination. Smokers have a tight to their habit, not matter what the government says. After all they established the Bill of Rights. It goes without saying that new evidence concerning smoking and breathing second-hand smoke. pop up every day. Without any type of ventilation, smoking on campus would be trouble. But smokers still have rights and they are being ignored. ACC must examine the priorities at hand. What does it need as compared to what it wants. This institution needs more equiptment and classroom space. ACC wants indoor smoking areas. John Pines
