Page 2 c— Upcoming Senate Activities ——z The Ski Club finally had a good turn out at their last meeting and were able to plan a couple weekend ski trips. Richard Miles, the club's advisor, and a few interested students first began holding meetings before the Christmas holidays. Jep Potvin was appointed President with Joel Kwiatowski as Secretary and Ben Schuener as Treasurer. The officers first goal was to increase the size of the club. Therefore a membership drive was held in VLH. They had a good response from the students which increased the number of members to over thirty. Approximately 175 people came out and danced to music provided by The Digital Connection. The dance was held Saturday, December 17 from 9:00 to 1:00 at the Alpena Civic Center and it was sponsored by Circle K. The Hall was decorated in red by dance Chairperson Nicole Bays and Circle K President Laura Madsen. ACC's Student Senate is actively planning the coming events for this semester. Among them are such attractions as Homecoming, Alpena's Winter Carnival and “Casino Nite." The dance which is sponsored by Student Senate in conjunction with Concrete Tech and Business Club will be held at 9:30 pm at the Alpena Holiday Inn Holidome. Casino Nite, the most popular of Senate activities, is scheduled for March 17 at the Holiday Inn. Activities are scheduled to begin at 8:00 pm ending at 11:00 pm with the prize auction. Several prizes will be awarded, featuring a Ski Club During the meeting on January 23 they planned a weekend ski trip. to Searchmont in Canada. The date of the trip is scheduled for February 24 - 26. The trip includes a package price of around $85 for two days of skiing, two nights and two continental breakfasts. The school will be subsidizing about $15 -$20 per person. They are also planning to hold a 50-S0 raffle with a tentative date of February 25. The ski club are members of the National Collegiate Association and plan to attend the NCSA ski weekend is Boyne Mountain on March 10-1: The ski club has a Saber Dancing didn't really get rolling until about 9:30, but from that time on the dance floor was filled. ACC President Dr. Donald several other members of the faculty and staff were spotted "getting down" with Newport and the younger folks. Highlights of the dance included a $20 gift certificate from Camelot Music which was won by ‘Nintendo Entertainment System. Admission for the event is free to ACC students. Students in attendence are allowed to bring one guest who will also be admitted free of charge. Alpena's Annual Winter Carnival is approaching. The Student Nurses Asso. is busy preparing various activities and contests for the students to participate in. One of the events planned is an on-campus snow sculpture contest, in which each club will create a sculpture which can be entered in the city contest. Prizes will also be awarded for the best on-campus snow sculpture. interest in both downhill and cross country skiing. They will be offered the opportunity to participate in either type of skiing during their ski trips. Although the club started off slowly with the late snow fall and the lack of members, Jep Potvin feels the ski club may be better than last years. He commented, "I think the ski club has great potential as long as we can get enough people together to do the fun things like the trips to Searchmont and Boyne Mountain". By Debbie Filarski nes With Success "Meet the Pros Night" highlights the February activities for the Business Club. It will be held on Tuesday, Frbruary 7, at 7:30 pm in rm 450 CDR/NRC. The evening will focus on the media, and it's relation to businesses. Featured speakers will be Bill Speer from The Alpena News, Darrel Kelly from WHSB-Radio, and Joe Edick from WBKB-TV. Everyone is welcome. Business Club will be Alpena Civic Theatre 401 River Street Prisoner of 2nd Ave. For Reservations call 3 2. Student Coupon Present at door Student ID checked at the door Business Participation in the ice sculpture contest was discussed. Also, plans are now underway for a field trip to Chicago, scheduled for April 19-22. Business Club meets on Tuesday nights in the BTC conference room at 6:00 pm every two weeks. Location is the Holiday Inn, holidome. The Business Club homecoming representatives are Corinne Buchler and Joe Krajnik. Corrine Buchler. Other highlights included the playing of Sam Kinison's "Wild Thing". Upon hearing "Wild Thing" anyone that wasn't already dancing, made a break for the dance floor and sang along. Some people even decided to imitate Jessica Hahn by rolling on the floor and taunting their respective boyfriends. Secretary of Student Senate, John Pines, stated that he was "thrilled about the large and enthusiastic crowd and I am looking forward to Homecoming". With that in mind, be sure to attend the Homecoming dance on February 4, at the Holiday Inn with the dancing to begin at 9:30. The dance is semi-formal and admission is free.
