It was in Wyoming that Ken met his wife Joyce, a native of the Alpena area. After their marriage the couple moved to Colorado, where their daughter, Stephanie, was born in 1989. That year, Ken and Joyce also decided to head to Michigan to be closer to family. The MacGregors settled in Alpena, and Ken took a job in a foundry, often working 60- to 80- hour weeks. He knew he wanted more. ‘Even while still out West, Kenhad thought about getting into the health care profession—physical therapy, specifically. He felt he had the personality, humor and desire required for someone in this profession, but the needs of his growing family made it impractical to go away to school. He realized, however, that he could earn an associate in applied science degree in registered nursing right here at Alpena Community College. Still working in the foundry, Ken began as a part-time student in 1990, taking one or two classes every semester... even summers! Keeping his goal in sight, he made steady progress and by 1994 had completed all the pre-nursing program course requirements. He was accepted into service groups and individuals can have a message posted for one day. Message forms are available from Karen Eller, 356-9021 Ext. 276, and at Besser Technical Center 125G.
