- Carl R. Henry was born in AuSable, Michigan, in 1887 to Charles and Florence (Parshall) Henry. He received his law degree from the University of Michigan in 1911 and went on to work with his father, Charles, and brother, Guy, in their law office of Henry, Henry, & Henry, in Alpena, Michigan. Carl worked as a corporation attorney for 55 years, serving many companies including the Detroit & Mackinac Railway Co. and the General Telephone Co. He was president of the State Bar of Michigan in 1938 and 1939. For 44 years, he was involved with the Alpena Savings Bank, during which time he served as both a vice-president and a director. Carl served 29 years on the Alpena County Road Commission. He was an avid agriculturalist who owned and operated Henry Orchards for numerous years selling mostly apples and cherries to local and Detroit businesses. Carl celebrated as a member 52 of his last 53 years at the Doctors' Hunting Club. Highly prominent in the Alpena Community, Carl was a caring and generous citizen who offered financial support to several people during the Great Depression. He made many philanthropic contributions through his membership at First Congregational Church, the Rotary Club, and other organizations. Carl and his wife, Wilma (Johnson) Henry, had three daughters: Susan, Elizabeth, and Mary, and thirteen grandchildren. Carl died on December 13, 1966, and is buried with the Henry family in Evergreen Cemetery, Alpena.
