Monday, November 25, 1963 THE TIMBER-CRUISER Page7 JACKS BEAT NORTHWESTERN ••• 91-61 Circle K Men Help Kiwanians Defeat Jaycee Team By Den Ledsworth Receiving a welcome in- vitation from fellow Kiwan- ians the college Circle K Club had six members par- ticipate in a nightime foot- ball game on October 30. In fact, the only scoring done was by the Cricle K Members. The score end- ing with an 18-0 shutout by the Kiwanians proved that the Kiwanis members may have snow on their heads, but there's fire in their feet such as the touch- downs scored by Roach, . Marlatt and Hamp. After the ballgame, Mr. Sowders invited the Circle K Mem- bers out to the Alpena Drive- in theater for a post- game luncheon. Mr. Sow- ders, besides feeding the members, let them have full command of the go- cart strip which proved that high school drivers training is indeed a neces- sity. M Football Champi~ns By Den Ledsworth The 1963 I.M. football came to a close when the undefeated Cherry Pickers chalked up their fifth and final win over the hard fighting Untouchables. The champions, having racked up ten touchdowns before game time, displayed another offensive show by crossing the end zone bar- riers three times with a 18 - 12 victory. Other action within the league saw the fourth place Green Giants lose to the second place Groundhogs in a 12 - 0 shutout. While the Giants were being shown the" art of football", Dick Genschaw's Chinese Bandits ran over the win- less Duds. With the successful I.M. football season over, the active participants· look forward to I. M. basket- ball and bowling. This is presently underway. If any student is inter- ~ ested, please contact Coach · Dutcher for further infor- ,-~ - mation. • I.M.F. Since A.C.C. does not · have a school banner, why couldn't we "kill two birds with one stone" by using our school flag at home and at away basketball games this year as a school ban- ner. In a sense, we would then be putting this large sum of money to a double use. The flag is in the school colors and is the approxi- mate size that a banner should be. It also has the school emblem and the team's name on it, which also makes it similar to a school banner. It is not known if other junior colleges in our con- ference have this type of banner or not, but if they don't, then let's make Al- pena the first. I ACC Takes Fifth In -State Meet Grand Rapids, led by Jim Kidder, raced off to its second consecutive cross- count r y championship. A.C.C., paced by Rodney Manatt - and Terry Harb- ·son gave a fine showing and, with a team total of 143, placed fifth. With all things totaled out, this was probably the strongest field of runners ever to take part in the M.C.J.C.A.C. state meet. The times for this year's event were the best ever wit)) the first twenty.:..five running the best times they ever did. Marlatt was the first Jack finisher in 20th place. Last year Rod placed tenth; however, his time was better this year than last. Other finishers for Al- pena were Terry Harbson 23rd, Bob Lee 27th, Demp- sey Yearout 32nd, Steve Ditchkoff 46th, Larry Vaughn 51st and Tony Skiba 55th. With a fine season be- hind them full attention can now be given to the up- coming basketball season. A NOTE OF THANKS The members of the Duds would like to take this opportunity to thank the players of the opposing teams of the Intramural football league in helping us maintain a per• feet seasonal record of five losses. -Gene Raymond TUBBY'S RESTAURANT Everyone Advertises Good Food WE SERVE IT! 132 S. If the tea:m continues to hustle and play the brand of ball displayed at Trav- erse City, this could be a very good year for the Lum ber Jacks. - J .P .
