In spite of the surplus of young talent that is at Coach McPhillip's disposal, he has an enormous taslt of moldiµg these individuals into a smooth running machine. Calvin Hicks, a freshman guard from Willow Run, collected the scoring honors and Tim Lutes, a freshman guard from Alpena, followed clos)e behind,. Dennis Blair of Rive1· Rouge Lourds and Ken Parish of Cheboygan also hit . in the double figures. Coach McPhillips grabbed the opportunity to play the whole team as the r_esea·v,es most of the second half. This first game of the season was encouraging to Alpena cage ·fans who remember the great 65 -66 season. They are sophomore . vet'8rans Mary Kay Chandler and Julie Losinski; fre-shmen Evalee Bel. lingham, Donna Frobea'g, and alternate Sue Doyle. Based on a five point system. the seven girls wei,e judged according to eye contact, co. 01-diination, ability to work with group, pep, poise, appearance, and voice. Each of the gii-1s trying out was required to do a group cheer, cartwheel, and the splits. The judges were Coach McPhillips, Harriet Kelm, Harriet Worniak. Marty Hughes, Gary Davis, Barb Hayes, Dennis Blair, and Dave ,'Simmons. The cheel'leaders will be wear. , ing new imiforms this season. The bowling classes held on Mionday and Tuesday of each week are a part of the physical educatton program of ACC. Jack Snyder handles instruction and PauliD!e Harter takes care of re. c01•ding · and finances. Each student is placed on a team according to his ability to bowl, and these teams in turn play agains.t one another. The cost is 75 cents a week per stu. ~ent.
