By Laurie Fitzpatrick < < "Enjoy;;;ent of education is in the classroom," stated Mr. ,Bill Beach, new math instructor at ACC this year. ,~ by Paul Wysocki For all history buffs who missed it, last October 2na was the Besser Museum's 5th annual Pioneer Harvest Day, which Michigan artisans from around the state practiced their age old cr~fts. The crafts and demonstrations performed, de- picted life during an earlier Northeastern Michigan era. Most of the demonstrations, which toq_k place inside of the Museum, were as follows: corn shell- ing, leathercraft, soap making, wool spinning, rug ~ making, quitting,. candle dipping, china painting, ---"---~ . horseshoeing, a flintlock rifle shooting, a11d old time business - such as 19th century life that was carried on in the old Maltz Bank. It was all thfs and the help, from countless num- bers of people that made the 5th a'nnu._al Fall Har- vest Day a memorable, interesting and enjoyable one for the 1500 to 2000 people that attended the "living" history of the past. Mr. Beac_h first came to Alpena in 1953, where his first position -was at Alpena High School as a · math instructor. He was also involved in sports as head footba!I, track and golf coach. He then went to Besser as principal in 1964. Four years later he was promoted to Director of Personnel for the school system where he spent eight years. McDonald's Dave Sporny Band to play Mr. Beach graduated from the University of Toledo and received his masters degree from the University of Detroit. He also belongs to Mich- igan Negotiation Association and the M-ichigan Per- sonnel Association Mr. Beach is married and has four children; 2 boys and 2 girls.
