Any student who picks up a copy of the Polemic , and reads the staff box sees the title "assistant edi- tor." He may ask himself just what is involved when one is the assistant editor of a -college newspaper. Being the assistant editor of the Polemic this past year was no easy task . Having to put out eight issues may seem like nothing but you must stop to consider that there were only about 20 people to write articles. The assistant is responsible for I veis--:"' thinking of current events that must be covered by the staff for each issue, writing articles, proofreading The purpose of this classification is to determine how much each student is to pay for enrolling at ACC. Tuition at Alpena Community College is $15 per semester hour for residents of the Alpena School District. The cost of tuition for a student who • lives out of this district, but is still in Alpena Cou_nty and some pa'rts of Presque Isle, is $24 per semester hour. Any student who does not reside in the Alpena School District or part_s of the in-service area, but is a Michigan resident is classified as out-of-service area and is expected to pay $26 per credit hour. Any non-resident of 'Michigan pays a total of $32 per each credit hour that is taken. , According to the A"CC haodbook, "It is the intent of Alpena Community College to make · every _ ,reasonable effort to correctly classify stu- dents-aGcordi:!:!9_,_tO their reside~~e." It also states that the burden o,f registering in one of the four catagories rests with the student. If a question arises it is her or his responsibility to discuss it with the Dean of Students. · Stated in the handbook are all the rules and regulations for classification d)f, in residency or or out of district policies. Any student who wishes to reclassify shou l_d contact the Dea'n of Student's office and request a form labeled, Request ,for Classification to In- District . Status_ The student is expected to file .· this request along with a record of his or her residency in this district at least one month in advance of the semester to which in-district res- idency is to be established. According to the student hsm'dbook, any stus dent desiring to chal'lenge his .or her classification under the foregoing regulation of the Board of Education shall have the right to petttion on appeal of the determination. The petition should be ad- dressed to the. This new program would take a year of study before it can become a possible new · addition to the ACC currrculium.
