Phi Theta Kappa inducts new members BY KENT LACOMBE STAFF WRITER Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society of two-year colleges. The local chapters of Phi Theta Kappa are the heart of the organiza- tion. Phi Theta Kappa seeks to instill in its members the four hallmarks of the society, which include Leadership, Scholarship, Fellowship, and Service, through active partici- pation in a wide variety of college and community activi- ties. Current officers in Phi Theta Kappa include Chapter President Rexann Wise~ Vice President Lynn Ellsworth, Re- cording Secretary Brenda Wilmot, Treasurer Cori Muszynski, and Public Rela- tions Secretary Kent LaCombe. Mr. J. Wesley Law is the Alpena chapter's Aca- demic Advisor. Phi Theta Kappa recently conducted its fall induction ceremony. Fourteen new members were inducted into NOW OFFERS ... the organization. This year's speaker was 88th District Court Judge Theodor~ Johnson, who spoke on Phi Theta Kappa's current honors topic, "Rights, privi- leges, and responsibilities." This creates difficulty in making traveling abroad a reality. He longs to go to Portu- gal. He has for' a long time had a desire to go there. "It's a beautiful country with won- derful people, good food and great wine," Matteson says. "What else do you need?" he added with a chuckle. He also expressed interest in Spain and Morocco. · Lamb had this to say about teaching. "I enjoy the work. I enjoy the people, I en- joy the students." Even before retirement, he had hoped to return to the college to serve in some function. On the holhe front, Lamb still continues to play golf- golf- golf. It's grown since he retired and it has the potential to grow more if he wants it to. According to Lamb, Kathy Dapprich brought µp the idea of possibly team- teaching a few classes with him in the spring. This is something he plans 'to con- sider. Lamb noted only one small drawback now that he's back. It takes more effort to correct papers than it used to. Lamb and Matteson are credits to this institution.
