Most recently, Lake Superior State College (LSS,,C) has donated a collection of books, magazines, and equipment worth $8000 for the students enrolled in Lake Superior's MBA program, which uses ACC as an off-campus extension. The $8000 worth ofequipment and materials pertains to the business area, and is in the form of magazines, books and microfiche equipment. Although the materials were donated for the use of LSSC students on campus, they are also available for the general population. The magazines are listed in the business periodical listings and anyone who has a need for them can visit during the regular library hours. Other contributions, either loans or gifts, include books from Page 3 Internship Program · "It is important to know what the outlook is for your job and what you are going to be up against if finding a job ... ," commented ACC Job-Placement technician, Doris Feys, when recently interviewe~ Currently the Job-Placement Office at ACC is working on the placement surveys for the winter 1986 and the spring and summer 1987 ACC graduates. The placement ratio at ACC is over . ninety-percent, according to Feys. When conducting the surveys, ACC considers someone placed if they are working or if they are successfully enrolled in a college program somewhere else, since many of our students continue with their educati9n after leaving ACC. Over seventy-percent of ACC students are either placed in jobs related to their major or continue with their education. The best programs ACC offers, in terms of job-placement, are in concrete technology, nursing, and drafting. The fields that appear to be growing in the number of jobs available can be seen in the fields of industry and heavy manufacturing. · In reference to Alpena, Feys remarked, "We need more ~ob devefopment...more economic development." The job-placement program at ACC is supervised by Frank Mccourt. It has been in existence since 1984. Commenting on the improvements since its beginning, Feys stated, "We've done a lot of good things with placement. I think there is room to grow." If a student is interested in ' placement, they should contact . Feys in VLH 122. She will give them forms to· fill out, contact the, student if a job is found for them and offer resume help. Feys . will also set up trial inte~iews for nervous students. Feys encourages students to come in and discover the outlook for their career choice. STUDENT SENATE Student Senate Items in _Action Some of the items dealt with during Student Senate throughout the past few weeks include Club , Day, the Student Senate and Campus Activities Board budget, and various other campus activities. At the October 20 meeting, Scott Bartz started with the financial report; Student Senate has $3,500 of their requested $5,000, and Campus Activities Board recieved $10,369 of the requested $11,500. The Concrete Club is .selling tickets for a 50/50 raffle drawing to be held November 24. They are presently working on a drive way at 1st and Hitchcock. Circle K will be holding a Film Festival on November 10 from 6:30 to 9:30. In the Law Enforcement department, activities include the attendance of a Law Enforcement convention ·on October 20, at Michigan State University; the Law Enforcem~nt Club is holdin a raffle with proceeds going to the ACC Law Enforcement Scholarship Fund. The drawing will be held at ACC on Tuesday, December 1, 1987, at noon. Donation is $1.00, need not be present to win.
