Page four [THE POLEMIC March 1972 LOMBERJACKS a Start New Baseball Season The “old ball game” will soon be un- derway for the 1972 Lumberjack Base- team as they make the move 2000 miles south for an April first opening. The trip should prove how well the players perform as a team. Because of our out of season weather the only type of prac- tice available is inside, which doens’t do justice for a trying young man. It's hard to say how the boys will do as a team, but they appear the best ability wise, individually, out of the three years of coaching at ACC,” stated Coach Miles. The team will be housed and fed by two schools during their trip, Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn., and Covenant College in Chattanooga, Tenn. As far as starting players are concern- ed, there aren't any as yet. The boys will get a chance to test their ability and all of them will play. Most of the games are double headers and they will also have to do some traveling to play all of the games. The team should be tired when they get back April 8. The team is quite young. One return- ing sophomore, Scott Thatcher, and thir- teen freshmen with three other sopho- mores will be performing. Ken Hilinski, a former ballplayer and presently a stu- dent teacher from CMU has volunteered his assisstance to Coach Miles. Miles feels the team is well developed defensive- ly. There are six pitchers and if the hit- ting is good we will have a winning team. The name of the game was hustle as the 3- North team went down 34-16 to the Hustlers for the women’s championship. ACC is a member of the Central Div- ision of the Michigan Junior College Ath- letic Association which includes St. Clair, Genessee, Macomb, and Orchard Ridge. It has proven to be the toughest baseball division of the Midwest. Two years ago St. Clair was third in the nation and last year Genessee was second in the nation. We should be quite proud to be a part of such high standings. Paul Smith, (above right) is winner of the chess tournament recently held at Wilson Dorm The team will play four home games at the end of the season. All games will be played at the County Fair Grounds during the day at 2:00. See you there! BASEBALL ROSTER v aH M A S T E R S NAME POs. CLASS.
