Some of the Enrollment Reaches Record High The Spring 1989 semester official count reached a record high of 2418 students. This total beat the previously set official count of 2413 in the Spring of 1988. With enrollment on a steady upward climb college officials prepare for a bright future filled with promising expectations for ACC students. Nominees Saught For Senate Positions Petitions for the 1989-90 Student Senate positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer are available in the Student Senate office in BTC, rm 100 VLH, the library in CRD?NRC. They must be returned by Feb. 3 to the Senate Office in BTC. Students Offered Special Skiing Rates At Mt. Mariah every Wed. from 4-10 pm. The cost is $5 for lift and $5 for equipment rental. This is open to all ACC students, staff, and faculty. Request Forms Out For Spring Grads If you are completing your graduation requirements this semester, be sure to submit a graduation request to Campus Services. The forms are available in rm 107 VLH. Deadline is February 17 and the fee is $4. ACC Foundation Reports Assets The Foundation has raised nearly $700,000 in assets from the beginning of its formation. The Foundation has currently set a date of| Feb. 1 to plan for its long-term future.On Feb 1 Dan McCormick of Educational Foundation Consultants will spend the day conducting various interviews and leading an evening workshop. McCormick's objective is to set guide-lines for the foundation and establish set goals and responsibilities for the members. Lafarge To Fund Training Office Lafarge has funded an agreement with the Center for Economic and Human Resource Development to establish an on-site training offfice, undertake an assessment of the training needs of the company, undertake selected training activities and evaluate and propose new training activities to meet the training needs of its employees. Events Set For Alpena Winter Carnival A reminder for all. you. snow. bunnies, outstheressthesAlpenasWanters| scheduled events to take place include an ice-scuba dive, broomball tournament, cross-country ski-events, ice fishing, snowball-softball, food, arts and crafts, ice-sculptures and much more. Last years event was a huge success, providing the public with a welcome opportunity to enjoy the snow in northeast Michigan. POPPA EFL B® PODRAG GOA BOW Tourism Course Alpena Community College's recent visit to its sister college in Ontario has led to the discussion of a possible Tourism and Hospitality program implemented at ACC. While it is too soon to speculate, members of the college staff and administration have been seriously investigating the need for a Tourism and Hospitality program, and the student interest in such a venture. The idea was db: To Be Offered? staff noted the many similarities shared, such as the business, nursing, and law enforcement curriculums, as well as differences--ACC's Concrete Technology program and GC's Great Lakes School of Marine Technology. Uni areas of particular interest at Georgian College were its different programs available in Tourism and Hospitality. re Programs ranged TO ACC's delegation, which traveled to the Owen Sound campus of the Georgian College of Applied Science and Technology, located in Ontario, Canada. At Georgian College, ACC to instuction in the culinary arts. ACC staff and administration have begun to examine the feasibility of instituting similar programs at Alpena Community College. Students Expose Themselves Through Art See Several artists from ACC staged their own art show at the Alpena County Library last month. Students from the art classes of Joe Donna and Joyce Skiba displayed their creative talents for community to see. Featuring spatial and human compositions; it was a very successful show with a very large turnout. All who attended were impressed. Much research will have to be done into financial feasibility and employer and student interest. a two-year Associates in the Applied Arts were considered in her report. It is unkown at this time whether Alpena College will offer any of these programs in the By Lori Nash In her report, Tibbetts presents the returns of a survey she distributed to business owners in an eight county primary service area, made up 0 Ipena, Montmorency, Presque Isle, Oscoda, and Alcona counties.
