The college recognized its Foundation donors for the year in conjunction with a investment fund grant, written by Curt Davis, Dean of Instruction and Student Services. The center will greatly improve the capabilities of the college to provide The ACC Foundation held its reception after the dedication ceremonies of the Industrial Training Center on October 20. The Foundation's major program is student The total number of students enrolled at ACC this semester is 2,238 compared to 2,276 students last year. The number of students may be down, but the amount of contact hours being taken has increased from last year's 19,497 total contact hours to 19,621.That is a .6% (124 contact hr.) increase. Approximately 28% of last year's students were enrolled at WAFB, compared with 27% this year. Of the total number of students, 796 are looking to obtain technical or vocational certificates. This shows only a 4 student increase from last year. However, there is a 19 student decrease in the number of students planning to transfer credits earned at ACC to other institutions of higher learning. This year 209 students are expecting to graduate at the end of this semester. Last year at this time, only 157 students expected to have enough credits to graduate. -Of the 2238 total students, 949 are taking only day classes , 789 are taking only night classes, and 500 are taking both day and night classes. -Concerning where the students come from, 1,222 are from the Alpena school district, 934 from the service area (ie. Alcona, Hillman, Rogers City ), 67 are from cities in Michigan that are outside of the service area, 13 are from other states, and there are 2 students from outside of the United States. -Concerning the male to female ratio, women out- number the men, 1263 to 975. In other words, for every male student attending ACC, there is approximately 1.29 female students. Shrubs were trimmed and taken care of around VLH, NRC, and Trees and flowers were planted where needed, giving the overall campus a more pleasant environment. A hot water heating system has been installed in the East Campus Building to ensure hot water for | showers. Witt said,"Now we'll be in hot water all the time." Asbestos, a_ highly flammable insulation, was removed from East Campus and VLH boiler rooms due to health hazards. A new boiler system replaced the one in VLH. A couple of tubes had holes in them and it was less expensive to replace the boiler system than to constantly patch up tubing holes. Some classrooms have been remodeled and painted since last year. This offers a better learning environment for students. They no longer have the distractions of a falling ceiling or peeling paint from the walls. An intrusion alarm system has been installed in the NRC, VLH, and BTC buildings. This system will help keep intruders out and valuable school property in. he toxic waste issue has cooled down a bit over the summer. Inspectors found ribbon-cutting ceremonies held October 20 Dedication Renovations Underway that there is not a drain field as previously thought but the tank still has to be removed to test soil and ground water for pollution. If the test results are positive, then the soil and water will have to be dug up and replaced.
